Sefarad

The term Sefarad refers to the Jewish cultural sphere which had its origins in medieval Spain and spread throughout the various countries of Southern Europe, North Africa and Asia Minor.  The compositions on this album feature Robinovitch's music for guitar, reflecting the exotic locales of the southern Mediterranean. Included on the CD are arrangements for 3 guitars of Judeo-Spanishfolk-songs, a setting for soprano and instrumental ensemble of the biblical text, Song of Songs, and a moving reflection on the fate of the Jewish community on the island of Rhodes.

Choral Odyssey

"Choral music has always been at the core of my work as a composer. This was my first mode of expression and it is to the the human voice that I always return to rediscover my musical roots. I have written many different kinds of choral music over the years – original pieces on secular themes, settings of religious texts, children's songs, and arrangement of folk material.  This CD takes us on a journeythrough different times and places, from the ancient Near Eastthrough the lands of the Mediterranean to Latin America and the Canadian Arctic. But whatever the style of the music, and whatever its geographical or historical point of reference, it is the sound of voices combining in harmony with other voices that never fails to excite and inspire."

Klezmer Suite

Klezmer Suite showcases some of Sid Robinovitch's best known symphonic compositions.  Performed by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Bramwell Tovey, this album features his Suite for Klezmer Band and Orchestra, a work in 5 movements featuring Finjan, one of Canada's most popular klezmer bands. Also included are Camptown, a fantasy for banjo and orchestra on the old Stephen foster melody, and Concerto for Saxophone Quartet and Orchestra, a composition integrating the full dynamic range of 4 saxophones into a modern symphonic context.
